An Accounts Receivable (AR) Analyst manages a company's incoming payments, billing processes, and outstanding debts. They analyze aging accounts, reconcile financial records, resolve billing discrepancies, and ensure steady cash flow by turning sales invoices into collected cash. [1]
Key Responsibilities
- Billing & Invoicing: Generate and distribute accurate sales invoices, and process payments (checks, wire transfers, ACH).
- Collections & Follow-ups: Proactively monitor customer accounts, contact clients regarding overdue balances, and negotiate payment arrangements to minimize bad debt.
- Account Reconciliation: Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies, unapplied cash, and customer queries.
- Aging Analysis: Run and analyze AR aging reports to identify payment trends, track collection progress, and assess portfolio health.
- Reporting: Prepare financial forecasts and reporting metrics regarding liquidity and outstanding balances for management. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]
Ideal Requirements & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- Experience: 2–4 years of corporate accounting, collections, or AR analysis experience.
- Technical Proficiencies: Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (vlookups, pivot tables) and familiarity with modern ERP and billing systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Zuora).
- Soft Skills: Strong negotiation, critical thinking, and written/verbal communication skills for handling sensitive client accounts
